Thiel Hennessy, APN is the Nurse Practitioner/ Manager of the wound care center. Thiel was a staff nurse prior to this role and seamlessly jumped into this position despite having no leadership experience. She is not afraid to learn and is honest about her opportunities to grow as a provider as well as a leader. The wound center had a huge nursing leadership gap, with the nursing manager role open for over a year, and the team was looking for direction. Thiel stepped in and started tackling the challenges one by one, putting best practices and processes in place with collaboration from the hospital and her HMH peers. She also had to jump in to help out the front desk to cover vacancies for admin assistants. She took this into stride and worked with the Program Director to create a front desk play book and best practices.

Upon realizing that missing and dull surgical instrumentation was an issue at the center, she changed the process to disposable instrumentation where possible. Her ongoing collaboration with the IC department has led to no deficiencies at the recent TJC survey. The volume at the wound center has increased significantly since she started her role. She is able to cover physician absences for all patients, preventing gaps in care. We are indeed very lucky to have her!
