When so many faces come and go from a room, it's hard to remember a name, or so I am told when rounding one morning. That was not the case for Thelma. I spoke at length with a patient about her difficult time in the ICU and how she has been trying to overcome many barriers. She found it hard to care for herself, discouraging at times, but she certainly lit up when speaking about one ICU nurse, Thelma.

She spoke at length about her and the care that she provided. She became tearful in speaking about her, stating that Thelma was the light in her day and her "beautician". Not only did Thelma provide amazing medical care, but she went above and beyond many times, ensuring her patient, who was struggling with her dignity and comfort, was able to have a haircut, a bath, and was provided a "mocktail" with "many fruits". The patient was so happy at the end of the conversation, discussing how Thelma took a terrible day for her, full of frustration and pain, and made it so memorable and full of laughs and joy.

Thelma has done this for many patients, and even coworkers, and demonstrates her love and passion for patient care every day. She is an inspiration and a true motivator to all those around her. She embodies extortionary compassion, which does not go unnoticed, and is displayed every day in her care.
