Her efforts not only helped ensure our daughter had the best care and experience in the NICU, but also made our NICU journey as parents more manageable.
Recognizing Theresa Dotson exceptional care, unwavering compassion and consistent dedication during our daughter's seven week NICU journey. While we received exceptional care from the entire NCH NICU staff, Theresa's efforts and care stood out among the rest and set her apart from her peers. Her efforts not only helped ensure our daughter had the best care and experience in the NICU, but also made our NICU journey as parents more manageable.
We want to recognize Theresa for the following reasons:
Inclusive and Thoughtful Engagement: Theresa's commitment to including us in significant "firsts" for our daughter, such as baths and bottle feedings and her encouragement for us to be involved and providing the care resonated throughout the entire seven weeks. Her dedication to accommodating our schedules and enduring the rest of the nursing staff was aware of the plan for these "firsts" showcased a level of commitment that profoundly enhanced our bonding experience with our daughter and allowed us to feel moments of much needed "normality." For one of our daughters first baths, she proactively scheduled the bath for a time that we would be available.
Heartful Surprises and Personal Touch: Theresa's continuous effort to create a comforting space for our daughter and us as parents was reflected on Day 1 with the decoration of glow-in-the-dark princess stickers "because she is our newest princess in the NICU". This simple, but thoughtful gesture personalized the environment, contributing to a comforting and inviting space that continued throughout our stay.
Calm and Reassuring Presence: Theresa also went out of her way to explain the upcoming schedule of events, milestones and their respective expectations. Her expertise was evident in her comprehensive knowledge and willingness to address all of our questions, no matter how trivial they may have seemed. Her approachable demeanor paired with her patient and informative responses provided a sense of reassurance and empowered us to better understand and navigate our daughters' care.
Warm Welcome and Regular Check-ins: Theresa consistently extended a warm welcome upon our arrival every day to the NICU floor. She would make a conscious effort to regularly check in on us at the beginning and throughout her shift, providing a constant source of comfort and support during this challenging period. Her genuine concern for both our daughter and us ensured that we consistently felt welcomed and supported throughout the entire NICU journey.
