During a time of high census of several serious patients, Theresa showed outstanding clinical attention to my signs and symptoms and quickly recognized that I was having an elevated ST myocardio infarction. She immediately contacted the cardiologist, who was not on call, to relay the findings and increase my troponin levels for his interpretation of the signs and symptoms. He immediately scheduled a heart cath and inserted a stint in my left descending artery. Theresa's rapid recognition of my deteriorating condition prevented additional cardiac damage. My wife, who is an RN, was extremely impressed with Theresa's clinical skills and empathy for me and my case. She exceeded all expectations of what is required of a staff nurse on a Med/Surge unit. My wife commented that Theresa was "one of the best nurses she had ever seen." Her opinion carries a lot of weight with me since she has been a nurse manager/director for many years, and I have witnessed unenumerable nurses in all spheres of nursing. I personally feel that Theresa's quick action and pursuit of the best care possible prevented me from having severe cardiac damage at best and possibly even cardiac arrest at the worst-case scenario. I cannot express my utmost endorsement for this nomination for the DAISY Award.
