In the end, Theresa drove part of the way, meeting someone who helped drive the rest of the way to the patient in Mississippi.
A patient spent three nights in the hospital for Tikosyn loading/drug monitoring. She was discharged on a Saturday and, unfortunately, left without a supply of Tikosyn. Most pharmacies do not keep a supply of this medication, so if the patient had missed more than one dose of this medication, she would need to come back to the hospital and start the drug monitoring over again. She’s an elderly individual, so the hospitalization was difficult for her. Additionally, she’s from Mississippi, and by the time it was discovered that she would not have her medications for the weekend, she declined to come back to Little Rock, Arkansas.
Theresa was covering patient phone calls for the cardiologists that weekend. When the patient called, she immediately took the time and called every pharmacy in the area. She also called every hospital in the area, trying to get the patient her Tikosyn supply. After multiple attempts, she finally found a pharmacy in Conway, Arkansas, that would fill the prescription. She then also volunteered to drive the medication to the patient. In the end, Theresa drove part of the way, meeting someone who helped drive the rest of the way to the patient in Mississippi.
