I stayed at GCH for a couple of weeks after surgery and was lucky enough to have Theresa as my nurse much of that time. I got to know her pretty well during my stay and found out what a wonderful nurse Theresa is.?I was in some pain after surgery and Theresa understood my pain and I got more comfort out of her just talking and joking around with me than medication could have provided. When I was feeling the worst I could count on Theresa putting a smile on my face.?We talked about our families and she got to know mine. Theresa is a very caring nurse. She seems to have a sense of what people need and when. She is extremely professional and also caring.?When I was able to go home I was happy but at the same time sad because I enjoyed the conversations we had. I enjoyed my stay because of ALL of the nurses and staff. Everyone was wonderful. Theresa made my stay as pleasant as it could be and I will always appreciate that.??In the time since my stay, I have witnessed Theresa's caring and compassionate care for other patients many times. She's a very special nurse and we are lucky to have her.?Thank you to Theresa and all of the GCH nursing staff. I am grateful for each and every one of you.

I was hospitalized due to an injury to my leg. The injury spread due to the fact I was on blood thinner stretching from the ankle to the knee creating a large hematoma and weight-bearing was limited. I was given excellent care by the doctors, lab techs, nurses, CNAs, kitchen, housekeeping, surgery techs, but one nurse took that extra time to help me face new situations with less fear. I don't think I'm any different from most patients when I admit that facing these new situations for the first time is daunting. I didn't know what to expect. I was told I would need to have a transfusion. No problem except when you're the one lying there losing blood it now becomes a problem. This nurse took the time to explain the process to me, staying with me through the early steps explaining what they watch for as far as any complications, etc. This helped me stay calm as she answered any questions I had. Next, I was told I would need an MRI. No big deal except if you are a little claustrophobic. She helped to keep me calm by suggesting that since it was my lower leg I could ask that they put me into the machine feet first. I did ask and they said it would be ok. The results of this test showed a lot of something in the lower leg. This indicated surgery to remove damaged tissue and the application of a special dressing and a wound vac to my lower leg. This meant dressing changes every couple of days and this nurse did many of these which were quite painful. She tried to be as careful as possible doing these and we were later showed a new addition to this dressing making it much less painful. I owe a BIG THANK YOU to the purchasing dept for getting this new addition to the dressing procedure. This has been a long ongoing event for me and I have been helped by many but a special thank you needs to be given to Theresa for all of the little extras she did to help me through this time.
