I cannot thank Theresa enough for being diligent and responsive and showing me grace at a time when I was confused regarding my daughter's health.
I took my daughter to an urgent care near my house due to an ear infection with pain that she hadn’t experienced before as well as redness behind the ear. I was concerned about mastoiditis and called CHOP ENT for a second opinion after our urgent care prescribed antibiotics and a stronger ear drop. Theresa called me back quickly and reviewed my daughter's symptoms, asked about the urgent care visit, and asked that I send pictures of my daughter's ear through the portal. She viewed them almost immediately, called and gave me her input and further instructions, and proceeded to call me a few more times with her thoughts and additional questions, asking for my input as the parent. After hearing my daughter cry over the phone while putting ear drops in, Theresa spoke to me further about how my daughter was doing, how I was feeling about it, and the dangers of mastoiditis. I told her that my gut told me something was not right. She immediately told me that I needed to trust myself and to take her to our nearest children’s hospital, even though it was not CHOP. It turns out that my daughter did have fluid in her mastoid bone, but was not yet infected and was able to be treated with IV antibiotics for 2 days before being released, no surgery needed. The doctors said that had my daughter not had tubes or if I waited another day or 2 to bring her in, she would have needed surgery. I cannot thank Theresa enough for being diligent and responsive and showing me grace at a time when I was confused regarding my daughter's health. Had it not been for Theresa encouraging me to trust myself and err on the side of caution, I would have most definitely waited another day or longer before bringing my daughter to the hospital. I am so thankful for Theresa. CHOP has a great team in place!
