Instructor Berthold has made my time at UW Oshkosh significantly better. He is a lab and clinical instructor here at UWO. There have been many days where the workload of classes has been overwhelming, or I have felt less than confident about my skills in lab. However, Tom always brightens the day with his cheerful attitude and is exceptionally helpful. I have learned an abundant amount from Tom due to his expert knowledge and excitement for teaching. He also encourages a judge-free environment, which makes many students eager and comfortable to ask him questions. I would like to thank him for having such a positive impact on my time in the nursing program and he is an inspiration to the kind of nurse that I aspire to be.

Professor Berthold began as my lab instructor during my first semester of nursing school. I was a new student and very nervous about making my way through the nursing program at UWO. Professor Berthold opened himself up since day one as someone any of us could talk to about life or questions regarding our coursework. He was never intimidating and always made sure all our questions were answered. He continued on as a lab instructor junior year and reached out to many students to inform them that he was not just a professor but a colleague of ours and wanted us to succeed; if we did need anything he let us know to reach out. He noticed that my best friend 's mom who is a former RN in the area had suffered a brain tumor and there would be a benefit and shirts sold to raise money for the cause. Professor Berthold went out of his way to purchase a shirt and donate to the benefit. This is not his duty as a professor at the university, but he went above and beyond anyway. I believe that in every aspect of life we needed leaders like him. Kindness goes a long way in this world and Professor Berthold does a great job displaying this. I have talked to many students who also agree that he has made a positive impact on their experience as a UWO nursing student.
