My husband was admitted to the VA Hospital through the Emergency Room. He was brought here because he kept passing out and there seemed to be no good reason for it. He was also having severe leg pain. After approximately 10 hours, he was taken for a CT scan and the doctors discovered both of his legs were completely blocked with blood clots. After 3 days, they were able to clear this right leg of the clots. They made the decision to amputate his left leg a few inches above the knee. He stayed in intensive care for about 5 days and then transferred to PCU. Tommy was his nurse when he was admitted and they automatically became friends. Tommy was very attentive and when any of my family or his had questions, he always found time to answer them. He explained things in terms we could understand. Tommy always made sure my husband was comfortable. He went above and beyond what I felt most people would do. He always had a smile on his face and was very respectful to everyone. He also made sure the visitors were comfortable. He is wonderful.
