August 2022 Honoree
Thomas Ryan, RN
I’m 25 with stage 4 breast cancer. I’ve been admitted for a week now and I can tell a lot of the nurses feel bad for me and rush in and out. He pulled up a chair and sat with me today to just talk over my feelings and our circumstances. He related where he could and gave thoughtful and caring advice to me. I felt like I was in the room with my brother. He listened to my frustrations and acted like a friend reassuring me. We never know what tomorrow brings, but I plan to demand a better tomorrow because of the way he spoke with me. As a nurse, he checked in on me often and always made sure I had what I needed. It was a breath of fresh air from the darkness I felt I was in.
Thank you, Thomas, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
