I tell everyone that the reason I am alive is because of the care I received at West Georgia.
I came into the hospital at West Georgia to get my hernia repaired. Dr. Major was my doctor. I was told this was a fairly normal surgery and that after a few hours in recovery, I should be well enough to go home.
I don't remember much about the surgery or going to the recovery room. What I do remember is waking up in the ICU and realizing that great Nurses had saved my life! I was told that I had trouble breathing in the recovery room and they had to put the tube back in my throat to save my life. The Nurses in the recovery room were Jessica Harrill, Elizabeth Ellis, Cindy Huckabee, Lindsey Perkins and Marylois Calhoun. Dr. Fine was the anesthesiologist. I want to thank her for putting the tube back in and saving my life.
I cannot say enough about the fine care I received in the recovery room. I don't remember it, but they let my fiancé come into the recovery room to see me and they were so nice to her. They wanted her to know they were taking care of me and that they were doing everything to make sure I got better. They stayed with her and made sure she would also see me in the ICU.
The nurse in the ICU was Cathy Porter. She took very good care of me. She made sure I was comfortable and stayed with me to make sure I got the tube out of my throat as soon as possible. She made sure my fiancé and my sister were able to see me. Cathy wanted them to know the Doctors and Nurses were doing all they could to make me better.
I was transferred to the 5th floor after I was stable. I received very good care there from my Nurse, Jessica Siggers. Ms. Calhoun also came to the ICU and to the 5th floor to let me know that all of surgery and recovery was praying for me and they were thankful that I was doing well.
There are not enough words to tell the surgery and ICU team how thankful I am for saving my life. I tell everyone that we have the best Nurses and Doctors right here at West Georgia. I tell everyone that the reason I am alive is because of the care I received at West Georgia. I will never forget this event in my life, and I hope that the Nurses and Doctors know in some small way how I appreciate every one of them!
