Thuy suctioned her, brushed her teeth, applied lip balm, and changed her. She was always happy, talking to my mom, ensuring she was safe.
I was alerted by my sister that my mom had a stroke was on the heart floor at Spartanburg Regional. I left home early Saturday morning from North Carolina to be with my mom. I had no idea what to expect, as I had been told she was unresponsive. When I arrived at Spartanburg Regional her nurse was in the room positioning my mom with care. She showed such compassion, as she easily helped my mom, while updating me on my mother’s condition. She also began updating me on the next steps they were taking to determine what was really going on. Her nurse told me about every detail of tests that had been ordered, medications she was receiving, and continued to work to make my mom as comfortable as possible. Her nurse also told me she was scheduled for an MRI within the next 2 hours and she was going to go with her to ensure she was comfortable. Her nurse came in multiple times over the next few hours to check on all of us. She went with my mom to her MRI to make sure she was safe. When they got back to the room, her nurse suctioned her, brushed her teeth, applied lip balm, and changed her. Her nurse was always happy, talking to my mom, ensuring she was safe. The cardiologist came to let us know that mom had suffered a severe stroke. After he gave us an update, the nurse continued to provide us updates and check on us. I wish all nurses had the caring, compassion, and love that my mom’s nurse had. Thank you, Thuy, for all you do to make a difficult experience bittersweet. You are a true asset to Spartanburg Medical Center!
