She put the now gold locket in the patient’s hand so he could give it to his wife when she came in.
Tifani and I were talking at the end of her shift about one of her patients who was neurologically intact but was very sick.  Erratic heart rate, and SBP in the 60s.  The patient is on Levo and their goal is to get the patient well enough so he can go home and die at home.  Tifani was telling me that she was worried the patient was going to die yesterday on his wife’s birthday.  He had mentioned to Tifani he wanted to give his wife a gold locket.   Tifani went home from her shift and went to Wal-Mart.  She said she could not afford a gold locket, so she bought a silver-colored locket and spray-painted it gold.  She brought it back the next day along with purple flowers and gave these things to the patient. She put the now gold locket in the patient’s hand so he could give it to his wife when she came in.  Tifani loves her job and loves caring for people in these difficult times.  Her story made me cry and I wanted to share it with you.

The patient was able to give his wife the gifts before he stroked.  He didn’t die but wouldn’t have a last gift for his wife.
