Tiffany is an extremely caring and invested nurse. She can hardly take a second to sit down because it takes away from patient care. I was prompted to nominate Tiffany for the DAISY Award when I saw her show a tired and stressed family amazing, loving care.
It was a very busy night in the ED. No nurses, techs or doctors had spare time or energy to do anything but provide direct patient care, well no nurses but Tiffany. One of her patient's families came out of trauma room 2 asking for coffee. Tiffany, who had not sat down yet, said something like "Oh yes of course." She then proceeded to ask what else they needed, "recliners, blankets, pillows, something small to eat?" They did not want to bother her with too much. However, she then referenced how tired they must be and that she was happy to get whatever they needed. Also, she said that they needed to take care of themselves in order to take good care of the patient. It was a genuine and sweet interaction.
It really touched me and reminded this ED nurse that caring goes beyond the immediate orders and assessments. Sometimes it is easy to forget the simple needs of families sitting at a patient's bedside. Tiffany reminded me of going above and beyond for our patients and families.
