I would like to recognize Tim Chu for excellence in nursing. I have floated to his unit several times. If I see he is working, I know it will be a good night, even if it's not an easy night. Tim is very knowledgeable about hospital policies, hospital resources, and nursing in general. He holds the CNC position and sometimes is also the only chemo-certified nurse working on the unit. Even with all of these responsibilities, he checks in with me multiple times throughout the shift and before he leaves at the end. He will stop what he’s doing if I approach him for help. He also assists other units with IV starts or any other questions they have about policy or how to do something. I have even seen him show up when my patient had a rapid response on a different unit! I have never seen Tim be impatient with negative feedback to staff or patients. I saw a needy, demanding patient follow him in the halls, asking for meds, and he remained patient and spoke courteously and with compassion to her as he addressed her needs. I think Tim is a remarkable nurse, and I would want him to be my nurse if I were in the hospital or any member of my family. I think Johnston-Willis is very lucky to have someone of his caliber working here. I am a traveling nurse who has worked in over 50 hospitals across the country. Tim is one of the best!
