I had been in my room for one day. The plan was 4-7 days in the hospital for the intense surgery I just had. My surgeon, the best of the best, told me to walk, walk, and walk. That would be the best way for me to heal.
The pole I was connected to was in dire shape. I not only had to drag my IV along, but NG tubing, and the cords to plug in the PCA pump and the IV pump. The first time I went out for a walk with my nurse, I only made it 20 feet and turned around because the pole was so bad. I tried again later, and again after that. I was able to increase my distance just a little bit each time. Each time, I remarked about that wretched pole.
The next day, Nurse Tim was walking down the hall and saw me struggling to get back into my room with that pole. He stepped up to help me get settled in. I remarked about the IV pole needing a tune-up. He said, "let's have a look." Once he determined the problem, he said, "let's get you a new pole." Within 30 minutes, he had transferred everything to the new pole and I was ready to go walking with a slick pole.
I can't begin to describe the difference Tim made in my life for the 3 remaining days I was in the hospital. He was amazing. He saw a problem. He saw me. He took action.
I want him to know my gratitude. Thank you, Tim.
