After an exhausting day, where even explaining myself felt overwhelming, his advocacy in that moment meant everything.
My son was hospitalized while being treated for leukemia for around six months, during which time we lived in the hospital full-time. This was an incredibly stressful period, and trusting others to take care of your child during a treatment like this is so difficult, but Tim always went above and beyond in his care for us. He took the time to explain everything that was happening and made sure that I understood fully what was going on or why certain medications were being given. He also did extremely thorough checks of my son during every shift, which made me feel comfortable and confident that nothing would be missed.

One night in particular stands out. My son had had a difficult day with a reaction to an antibiotic, as well as needing multiple transfusions. That evening, Tim was our nurse, and when one of the blood products came up, it looked to me like a different volume than my son had received in the past. I voiced that I wasn't sure if this was right, and Tim didn't dismiss or question me at all and immediately offered to double check. Later that same night, I tried to advocate for my son while speaking with a doctor. They pushed back, questioning me multiple times about why I was requesting a particular course of action, and I struggled to articulate my reasoning. Tim saw me struggling and, without hesitation, stepped in. He spoke up for me, calmly explaining that my son and I just needed rest and that we could revisit the conversation in the morning. After an exhausting day, where even explaining myself felt overwhelming, his advocacy in that moment meant everything.

Every time Tim was my son's nurse, I could breathe a little easier because I knew my son and I were receiving exceptional care from someone who was not only highly skilled but deeply compassionate, and for that, I am forever grateful.
