Tina Bowsman, RN
I would like to recognize Tina Boweman for her extraordinary advocacy, compassion, and excellence in nursing.
While walking on the unit, I witnessed a powerful interaction between Tina and a former patient that will leave a lasting impression on me. The patient became emotional as she shared a story from several years ago, recalling a time when she experienced a fall in a behavioral health setting and sustained a clearly fractured wrist.
Despite the challenges of the environment, Tina strongly advocated for this patient to receive appropriate medical evaluation, pain management, and timely transfer from the psychiatric facility to a medical facility. The patient spoke at length about how Tina ensured she received not only excellent clinical care, but also unwavering emotional support during a frightening and vulnerable transition.
She described Tina as "a light in the night" and emphasized that her care could not have been any better. The patient repeatedly identified Tina as an outstanding advocate and a remarkably strong nurse who truly stood up for her when it mattered most.
As the patient became tearful, she embraced Tina, expressing deep gratitude for her caring attitude and the way she was treated as a person-not just a patient. Observing this moment was incredibly moving and reaffirmed the profound impact nurses can have long after a single encounter.
I was genuinely taken aback watching this scenario unfold and felt immense gratitude knowing Tina is a nurse on our team. She consistently demonstrates care, compassion, and excellent use of self to help patients feel safe, heard, and supported-empowering them to become the best they can possibly be.
