Tina Meinkowsky is a skilled nurse, a person of deep compassion, and, to me, a God-sent guardian angel.
My husband was admitted for a routine heart procedure to implant a Watchman device. We met his Prep & Recovery nurse, Tina Meinkowsky, before he was taken in. What followed was far from routine, and over the next three days, Tina became not just a nurse but my guardian angel. When complications arose during the procedure, I was informed that my husband needed emergency surgery. Initially unaware of the seriousness, I was gently guided by Tina into understanding the reality. She stayed with me, comforted me, and ensured I wasn’t alone. She offered food and drink when I couldn’t think to care for myself. More importantly, she stayed beside me as I processed the shock, fear, and growing grief. When I first saw him in the ICU on life support, Tina was there again. She checked on me regularly, sat with me, and offered both physical and emotional nourishment. As his condition worsened and I was faced with unimaginable decisions, Tina remained a constant, compassionate presence. In his final hours, Tina continued to provide comfort, including protein drinks when I couldn’t leave his side. When L passed, she appeared once more—offering strength, a shoulder to cry on, and words of kindness that helped me begin to cope with the loss of my husband and best friend of 49 years. Tina’s care didn’t end at the hospital. She followed up with texts in the days that followed, checking in and sharing encouragement. I had never met her before that fateful day, yet she treated me like family. Tina Meinkowsky is a skilled nurse, a person of deep compassion, and, to me, a God-sent guardian angel. Her actions went far beyond duty. She cared for me when she had no obligation to do so—simply because she saw someone in need. Tina, thank you for walking beside me in my darkest days. This DAISY Award only begins to honor the extraordinary nurse and human being you are.
