Tina was playing the Temptations on her phone and dancing with the patient's wife and daughter in the patient's room.
Tina and I talked about the strategy for terminally weaning a patient early in the day. It was complicated as the patient had a laryngectomy and had COVID. I stopped back a while later to check on how things were going. Much to my surprise, Tina was playing the Temptations on her phone and dancing with the patient's wife and daughter in the patient's room. Tina had taken the time to ask about what the patient liked before he became ill. He loved Motown music and dancing. His wife felt this celebrated his life.
Tina makes the effort to make these emotional and meaningful connections to patients and families. Not everyone is capable or willing to take this extra step.
