Tina Smith is a staff nurse at Allegiance Digestive Health. She had requested PTO time earlier this month and it was granted. One of the physicians had a patient who needed to have a motility and 24 hour pH study done. The motility studies and 24 hour pH studies are performed by the nursing staff, not the physicians. There are only 3 nurses trained to do these studies and one of them is on FMLA. The patient was scheduled to be deployed to Afghanistan the following Saturday. In order to make sure the patient was able to get the treatment he needed before being deployed, Tina came in on her PTO day to perform the study and come in again the next day (another PTO day) to run the report to make sure the patient would get the treatment he needed before Saturday.
