Tina stands out as the most exemplary nurse we have had. Her genuine care and concern saved us so much fear and anxiety which has aided my husband in getting back on his feet.
Tina is an RN for Home Health. When she visited for the first time, she immediately stood out to my husband and me because she wanted to know all the details of what we had been through. My husband got cancer 2 years ago and it made him permanently blind. Tina was caring and compassionate as she listened to the difficulties we had associated with a complete stem cell transplant my husband received at OHSU. My husband’s cancer, blindness, and the difficulties we went through have been extremely traumatic to us. When it was time to leave she told us a different nurse would be taking over as nurse on our case because Home Health had mistakenly sent her, not knowing we were not in her geographic coverage area. After all the Dr.’s and nurses we’ve been through the last 2 years with OSHU, Bay Area Cancer Center, and BAH the thought of starting over again with a new nurse (particularly because of how much we appreciated connecting with someone who obviously cared, explained, and listened), just started our anxiety all over again. She recognized how deeply it was affecting us and said she would go back and talk to Home Health to see if there was any way she could continue to care for us. She fought for us and the boost it gave to our morale and how it helped our fear and anxiety was definitely extraordinary. We got to keep Tina and she went above and beyond to help us through the numerous feeding tube issues, explaining meds and terms to us as well as advocating on our behalf. She recognized the difficulty we had, with my husband’s blindness and low blood counts to keep going in weekly for lab draws at the cancer center. She contacted them and arranged to keep us from additional trips by drawing labs on her visits and moving her visit dates. My husband’s condition has required multiple trips for transfusions and infusions and the amount of different health care workers we’ve encountered through these last 2 years has to be numbered in the hundreds. Tina stands out as the most exemplary nurse we have had. Her genuine care and concern saved us so much fear and anxiety which has aided my husband in getting back on his feet. I sincerely hope she is considered for this honor, she is so deserving. There are certain individuals you encounter in your life that make life-changing impressions on you. Tina has been one of those people in our life and came at a time we were feeling discouraged and hopeless. She accepted and loved our pet dog Daisy on each visit, so The DAISY Award is such a fitting name for this Award!
