This is a smidgen of what they did. They formed an extraordinary team.
In the early days of COVID, during the most uncertain of times, the nursing supervisors worked tirelessly to keep our patients and staff safe when guidelines were few and the challenges great. This group of men and women displayed courage, resilience, and fortitude. There were times when the fear in the hospital was palpable, when some were unsure if we would make it (Would supplies run out? Will we have enough ventilators? Would we all get sick?) The supervisors kept morale up through the long nights and on weekends. They helped the families leave that Friday night when visiting hours were suspended until further notice, they helped employees from all departments work through their own fear, they navigated changing directives (Are we wearing goggles or face shields?) They patiently supported staff adopt new guidelines. They went to RRTs in the COVID units, they ran a satellite supply room, and they made trips to the depths of the basement to collect more of the famous Dr. Jasper PAPRS. This is a smidgen of what they did. They formed an extraordinary team. Some of them got sick, but they recuperated and returned to their posts. They kept on going. Even when tired and worn out, they continue to rally the staff. Thank you to this extraordinary team for their expertise, dedication, and compassion throughout the pandemic and always!
