Todd retrieved the pup. He left the dog in his truck and pulled to the front entrance to let the patient sit in his truck with the dog, to keep him calm, until his ride arrived.
I wanted to take a moment to tell you a story that I feel describes the values that are so much talked about within the IU Health community. Todd is an Emergency Room nurse at IU Health Ball Memorial. Recently, he took care of a patient who is a truck driver, by trade, from Texas. This man has issues with his jaw locking up and needed to be sedated to fix this. The patient was traveling with his small dog. Police took the dog to the shelter and locked up his truck. Todd called the shelter to check on the dog and was told that if he did not pick the dog up in the allotted time, that he would have to be held until Monday. Todd knew this man was not going to be ready for discharge by this allotted time. Knowing that this was not going to work, Todd took it upon himself to clock out, grab his lunch, and head to the shelter (all after discussing with the charge nurse). It was below freezing and snowing, but Todd retrieved the pup. He left the dog in his truck and pulled to the front entrance to let the patient sit in his truck with the dog, to keep him calm, until his ride arrived. I am lucky to work with Todd in this department.
