Tomomi Sherrick, RN

I was admitted to the ER and then moved to the ICU. A week later, I was moved to the MedSurg unit where I met Tomomi and had the fortune of having her as my nurse 3 days in a row. I am at the hospital (still) due to a variant of the Guillain-Barré syndrome. By the time I met Tomomi, I still had very limited mobility and could only slightly wiggle my toes and slightly wiggle my fingers. I was basically paralyzed in bed, dependent on others to care for my daily necessities, however, Tomomi made me feel very safe and cared for. She did not make me feel like I was a burden, and she happily assisted me with all necessary things, including daily care and checking in on me to make sure I was OK regularly. She was very organized and prepared, often stocking up my drawer and tray with extra supplies to assist with easy access to supplies as needed for not only her usage with me but for other nurses as well. She kept my area very clean and organized as she cared for me, especially after using the bedpan. She was very caring and thorough even noticing blisters that I had formed and made sure to add those to my chart. When shift changes happened, Tomomi was great at letting my next nurse know information including reminding them to use hypoallergenic supplies since I have sensitive skin. When I was feeling distressed regarding a personal matter (I was crying as I spoke with one of my visitors), Tomomi came in after my visitor left to make sure I was ok. Tomomi never made me feel like I was a burden and instead, she was very optimistic and encouraged me as I made a little gains each day. This was especially encouraging to me. Tomomi was very patient and understanding of my condition, and I felt safe in her care.
