I first met Toni Brousse when I applied for a position as a nurse in the Endoscopy Dept. I was interested in transferring out of my previous department which I had been in for 20 years. Even though it was scary to leave my "home," Toni immediately made me feel as though I was making the right decision in many ways. After applying, Toni called to set up a shadow shift. At the first meeting, Toni was upbeat, informative, and encouraging. Once I was offered and accepted the position, Toni called and assured me that she would make the transition an easy one. Her famous line is " I got you." She enrolled me in all classes needed and guided me throughout my orientation with frequent "check-ins." Since I have been in the department, I have seen Toni give this individual care to everyone. She onboards new employees, trains employees on new equipment, and makes frequent rounds to make sure everyone has what they need to be successful no matter what role they play in the department. Toni is selfless with her time and is always willing to listen. She will stay late to meet with individuals without hesitation if needed. Toni is also on multiple committees. She does all of this while continuing to work in a staff nurse role as well. It had been several years since I applied to the clinical ladder because of feeling as though it was too much work, not worth the effort or just feeling overwhelmed by all of the paperwork. This year Toni encouraged me to apply and has been just a text away with any questions. I have never felt so supported to strive to go out of my comfort zone and succeed. Outside of work, Toni is a member of a non-profit organization that supports Community Advocacy and continues to selflessly give her time to others. I feel that Toni deserves recognition for going above and beyond to ensure employees are given the opportunity and guidance by her to become the best members of the Ochsner team.
