Tony sat with me, held my hand, and talked me through it.
Tony was one of my favorite nurses during my hospital stay. Although they were all great, Tony was my biggest cheerleader and pushed me to get better every day. Even when I didn’t feel up to it. I was very anxious being on a ventilator and was having anxiety attacks frequently. He sat with me, held my hand, and talked me through it. Not only was he compassionate, kind, and caring, but he was also great at his job and nursing skills. When I would get too many medications at a time, I would feel very sick. Tony looked through my meds and tried to space certain ones out, while still following the schedule, so I wouldn’t feel as sick. Even though this meant more trips to the med room and back to my room, he did it so I would be more comfortable. Tony was not always assigned to me but that didn’t stop him from checking in on me every day he was at work. Tony is one of those special people who was truly meant to care for others. Every day I saw his name written on the board, I knew I would be cared for and have a good day. I cannot thank him enough for being so kind to me and for being a part of my recovery journey. There is no one more deserving of this award and his hard work should be recognized.
