There aren't many nurses like Tony. Often, small things such as asking the patient how their day is, taking care of seemingly "minor" inconveniences, or ensuring that a patients' basic needs are met are missed in the busy hustle and bustle of the hospital. However, these are the things that make the difference between taking care of the patient versus taking care of a person.
People are more than the collection of their diseases and lab values, and Tony can understand that. Not only that, but Tony holds others to the same standard. He leads by example and gives positive and constructive feedback that ensures that not only his patients get the highest quality care, but also, all those that are taken care of by someone he's worked with. This extends to interdisciplinary teams; he can guide and encourage nurses, physicians, technicians, and residents. He is an absolute pleasure to work with, and I know that if I were in the ED, then I would want someone like Tony to take care of me.
