As a Beaumont nurse, I think we all too frequently hear negative stories but I have a very positive one I want to share.
I received a phone call on Tuesday from Tony Wong, Nurse in the Cardiac Cath Lab at Beaumont Wayne. He told me that my mother had driven up to him and asked for directions. When he inquired where she was going, she answered, "I don't know". When he asked, where she had come from, he again got, "I don't know". He told her that she shouldn't be driving (she's 96 years old) and proceeded to be informed that she has driven since she was 16 and was certainly not stopping now! Tony was able to see her driver's license and found out she lived in Northville. He took it upon himself to have her follow him and drove her all the way back to Northville from Wayne. Somehow, he got my phone number and informed me of this event.
This is over and above Beaumont compassion at its finest. This nurse did not have to take the time to try to help her and not only did that, but he also used his personal time and gas to drive her an hour away. There are so many things that could have gone wrong in this story and Tony prevented them all and kept my mom safe. Most people would not have gone to this extreme.
The true definition of nursing is keeping a person safe and Tony not only did this, but he also did the morally correct thing and went over and above. He is truly an angel on Earth. The fact that he works for Beaumont says huge things about the caliber of employees here!
