Tonya is a very compassionate nurse who always strives to give the best care to our patients. Recently we had a patient in our unit that had been in the hospital for months. The patient had a very complicated hospital stay and it seemed he would never go home. Tonya often checked on his progress and listened to his concerns. It was time for his birthday and she decided we should celebrate his birthday. Not even waiting to collect money, she went out and purchased him a seven layer chocolate cake, balloon and card. The patient was astounded and appreciative that someone would go through all the trouble for his birthday. He was discharged later that day. This is not the first time that Tonya has gone above and beyond. If she can roll a patient outside during an extensive hospital stay, she will do so even if they need a portable monitor and oxygen.
