Tonya was the nurse handling my care when I was operated on at Granville Health System. A large number of positive statements are appropriate- professional, caring, knowledgeable, empathetic, skillful, and probably a dozen more. But what is not indicated adequately in such a list is the combination of wisdom and helpfulness that tie all of these positives together. Tonya repeated the explanation of my procedure but very carefully inserted layman's terms and touched the places that were involved. This additional explanation made my procedure much more understandable. That may seem a minor thing, but it can be very important to the patient, especially when the operation involves various procedures. Tonya’s excellent briefing enabled me to understand how and why I would be encountering surgery and did a good job of preparing me for proper recovery. Tonya did a superb job on all our communication. She clearly understands and applies the concept that what a nurse says should assist in healing. I was most fortunate to have such a skilled nurse in this situation. Tonya’s dignity, respect, and concern for the patient exceeded anything I had experienced in previous surgical situations. She is not only a credit to her profession but is also one of the most skilled nurses I have ever encountered.
