Tonya Edwards, RN

Tonya works on the Optima Medicare Advantage team. She had a member call from the parking lot of a Wendy's. The member was having withdrawal symptoms from heroin and wanted help. Tonya kept the member on the phone and typed in our Team's chat to please have someone call 911. The member declined EMS's help when they arrived and Tonya gave her the phone number of Virginia Beach Psych. The member called Tonya later and let her know Virginia Beach Psych would admit her that day and she needed a ride there. Tonya arranged a ride to the facility. The member called her the next day from Virginia Beach Psych and let her know she was admitted and was needing some info on housing. The member called Tonya every day from VB Psych and Tonya encouraged her. The member was discharged to Oxford House and is in a partial hospital program and is also going to a suboxone clinic. Every time the member talks with Tonya, she says she can't thank her enough.
