Tonya is the RN for (Renal) Nephrology clinic. She is the only nursing staff assigned to this clinic which means she is getting vital signs on all of the nephrology clinic patients, taking all of the telephone calls, entering consult, and sending lab result letters. She is known to her patients and they ask for her by name. She is also responsible for making sure dialysis consults are entered and entered correctly on all of the dialysis patients. Tonya often is also responsible for covering other specialty clinics on 58-3, which include GI/Liver, Infectious disease, and cardiology. She has covered multiple specialty clinics sometimes for extended periods during COVID coverage and during the times that the cardiology and the GI/Liver RNs have retired or taken other positions or are on AL.

Recently, the cardiology lab came to ask for her assistance to do an EKG on an add on patient because they are not fully staffed and already had a stress test scheduled. Without hesitation, Tonya went down the hall to help.

She goes out of her way to help our veterans, she will offer to take them to the other buildings for appointments, recently she took a Nephrology patient to building 98 to be accessed for an assistive walking device. She is always pleasant and helpful to everyone, she is a true DAISY Nurse.
