Tori had a patient who was diagnosed with a terminal illness recently and he is very young. He was upset about it and having a hard time keeping a positive attitude. Tori had to insert an NG tube and the patient cried, Tori was so overwhelmed with empathy for the patient that she cried too. She called me and asked me to go with her to the gift shop to get him a present to cheer him up. She picked out a "happy pill" stuffed toy that plays music, a bracelet with essential oils to calm him, and a nice card. In the card, she wrote "cancer sucks, but having you as a patient does not." Tori is the most patient, empathetic, hardworking, and tender-hearted person and nurse I have ever met. This is only one example of the many acts of compassion Tori has demonstrated in the time that I have worked with her. Nurses like her make a difference in the lives of patients and truly care about serving others. I am blessed to witness such acts of kindness and she inspires me every day to be a better nurse and person.
