My husband, normally a very healthy guy, had an unexpected major heart attack in the wee hours of the night at the end of March. After being up most of the night waiting in the Cath Lab visitor area, my son and I were finally brought to the ICU where my husband lay critically ill on every sort of life support. To say we were in complete shock is an understatement! Because I was in a fog, I didn't realize that Tori was on duty when my husband was admitted. We met and interacted with so many wonderful, competent nurses and RTs, but Tori stands out in my heart and memory. I've always thought it a "cheesy" statement when people refer to someone as an "angel." I stand corrected! I feel at a loss to express how much her very presence in that critical care room made. Tori told me several days into care for my husband that she had "thoughts and prayers for him" on her days off after his admission. She expressed genuine joy that he was with us and also joined our hope for his progress. Again, how do you describe a loving person? Tori personifies love in the gentle way she spoke to me and to my husband though he was intubated. She was constantly in the room and diligently charting. She was always kind and so professional. Her expertise in managing the heart pressors and sedation meds gave me great comfort. I could tell she genuinely cared that he was comfortable, constantly monitoring his facial gestures or body movements for agitation. And she cared for me! I can't tell you how many times she asked how I felt he was doing with regard to pain management, listening, and caring for my input. So there you have it! Tori gets my reward for Extraordinary Nurse! I love her! Thank you, Tori.
