It was comforting to know that I was being taken care of.
I was recently a patient within the Neuroscience ICU on the 5th floor of the Queens Emma Tower. I came to the hospital having suffered an emergency at home losing mobility in my lower extremities. After spending a few hours in the emergency room and determining that I suffered a minor stroke, I was relocated to the Neuroscience ICU where Tori was assigned as my day shift nurse. From the moment I arrived, Tori made me feel comfortable and assured me that she would look after me and take care of my needs. During my stay, she took the time to explain what was happening at each step of the way as I made my progression through a series of exams and follow-up tests. Coming from the emergency room and the seriousness of my condition, it was comforting to know that I was being taken care of. At the end of my stay, I was discharged right before the shift change between the day and night shifts for the nurses. Tori didn’t want the night shift nurse, who did not have me as a patient, to discharge me so Tori stayed beyond the end of her work day to go over the discharge paperwork and take me down and wait for me to be picked up. As an owner of a business, I know that in today’s job market good employees are hard to come by. Tori is definitely an asset to Queens and has a bright future ahead of her. She is deserving of recognition for her professionalism and for going above and beyond to give comfort to her patients. Thank you to the Queen’s staff for taking care of me during my stay.
