I always remember you holding my hand through the most difficult parts. You went above and beyond for me, and I need you to know how deeply it affected me.
I’ve had an overwhelming need to reach out to you ever since you treated me in the Emergency Room. I would have loved to thank you in person, but I don’t think I could have gotten through it, so writing seems like the best option.
That day was easily the worst day of my life. I will probably be reliving it for months to come. There were so many low points for me. I just needed you to know that your care for me was the highest of points. I had many doctors and nurses and caretakers on that day and the days to follow, but you are still the one that sticks out the most for me.
From the minute I got to Willard Hospital, I knew that I wasn’t going to be staying there. I could tell that people weren’t sure what to do with me. I could tell that I didn’t have a whole lot of time. There was a lot of frantic running around and uncertainty, but through all of that, you were always very present with me. You always made me feel cared for, as if you knew me. As if I wasn’t a perfect stranger. You made me feel like my life mattered. I could tell you were giving me everything you had. I could feel how hard you were working to save my life and I can honestly say I didn’t feel a lot of that from many people that day. When everything was going wrong, it would have been very easy to just let whatever was going to happen, happen to me. But I knew as long as you were by my bedside, every option was going to be exhausted. And that truly helped me find peace with whatever the outcome. I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, for the care you showed not only to me but to my husband and mother as well. When I replay the events of that night over in my head, I always remember you holding my hand through the most difficult parts. You went above and beyond for me, and I need you to know how deeply it affected me. It made all the difference really. I saw many nurses come in and out of my room, and I’m grateful for all of the care I was given, but when they wheeled me out of there to the helicopter, yours was the last voice I heard cheering me on by the door. You didn’t have to do that. Your job was done at that point.
Things went a little sideways when we were in transit, but I held onto you telling me to stay strong and that you believed I had this. A perfect stranger. It just shows your beautiful heart. You are doing the job you were meant to do. If you ever have any doubts, please know that.
I will never be able to truly express my gratitude and appreciation, I already know this doesn’t do it justice, but I need to try. I hope you see this, and I don’t expect or need a response. I pray God truly blesses you and your family. THANK YOU.
