December 2017 Honoree
tracy forker, RN
I spent 9 days at Cox Medical Center recovering from emergency surgery due to perforated diverticula. After the surgery, I learned that I had been given a colostomy. This was a totally new concept for me. I had no idea how a colostomy worked or how to take care of one. The hospital wound and ostomy care nurse, Tracy Forker, was there for me from day one until I was released from the hospital. I learned so much from the education she gave me and her gentle guidance. I was insecure about leaving the hospital and being responsible for my incision wound and colostomy care, but Tracy had done her job well and I did okay. She also actually gave me her private cell number and invited me to call if I had questions, which I did a couple of times and she really was a help. I am thankful for this special nurse. Tracy definitely made a meaningful difference.
Thank you, Tracy, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
