She is a firm believer that every situation is an opportunity to learn and grow. Even in the most challenging situations, Tracy's approach is one that is compassionate and respectful.
I have known Tracy since 2017 when I started my journey at Hershey Medical Center. Tracy's role at that time was the Nurse Manager for Contingency Staff (Float Pool). Tracy's expectational leadership skills, transparency, clear and respectful communication and interactions, guidance, and motivation for others are what make her a stand-out leader. Tracy is known to step right in to help staff provide bedside patient care. You can quite often find Tracy rounding on the units, especially in the Emergency Department. I have witnessed Tracy, on numerous occasions, putting patients on bedpans, answering call bells, transporting patients, and even sitting and feeding patients that require assistance.
I have sat through capacity calls and meetings where Tracy is consistently advocating for the staff. Tracy always puts the needs/wants of others before her own. No matter what is asked of her or what project is thrown her way, she will always get it completed. Tracy addresses situations in real-time and follows through with what she says. She actively listens to each and every person and addresses any needs. She is a firm believer that every situation is an opportunity to learn and grow. Even in the most challenging situations, Tracy's approach is one that is compassionate and respectful.
Tracy strives for excellence in all aspects of her life. She relies heavily on transparency, trust, and respect. Tracy has invested a lot of time in the Resilience and Retention Council and also the Behavioral De-escalation Response Team (BDRT). Very often you will find that Tracy is the first one to come in and the last one to leave. She spent a lot of time putting together activities for Nurses Week for 2022 and being present. In the Resilience and Retention Council, you can truly tell the joy Tracy gets when recognizing staff and discussing awards for staff. Tracy is someone who inspires many of us. Tracy has laughed with staff and also cried with staff. She has been one of the biggest advocates for the nursing staff during high capacity levels and nursing staff crises. During these difficult times, she has managed to create an environment of trust, compassion, and mutual respect.
When a BDRT is called, Tracy is almost always present. A couple of months ago we had a BDRT called in our PACU late in the evening around 1900. Tracy was in the University conference center during this time. When she got news of this, Tracy came over to the PACU right away and supported my staff during this difficult time. When my staff received pushback from the provider during this time, Tracy made sure to escalate this situation to our CNO. Furthermore, a new category in Midas was added so nurses can easily report any pushback they receive from providers.
Tracy is a true role model in the nursing profession and an exemplary leader. She is constantly recognizing others for a job well done. I believe it is time she gets recognized for the excellent work that she has done and continues to do.
