Tracy took care of my Grammy on her last day on this earth. Tracy treated her with professionalism, kindness, and dignity as she lay unconscious and intubated. When Tracy needed to move her in bed she apologized and talked with her through the whole process and with a comforting voice. Whether or not she could hear her, but she made sure to continue talking to her.
Tracy cared so greatly for us as well not just my Grammy. She found a chair so we could have more visitors an asked us multiple times if we needed any water or anything. She answered all my 100 questions with incredible patience and was not bothered by them at all. She made us feel like we were her only family and that my Grammy was her only patient. She was there for us as we cried and gave comfort by her presence. She took the time to look at a picture of me and my Grammy and told me how beautiful she was. She didn't pressure us to make any decisions but was there to guide us. When I asked for her EEG to be removed and her hair to be washed she made sure that was her top priority. She was the one to give her a final bath. She took her time and didn't rush. She cleaned her up and even styled her hair. My Grammy looked beautiful and relaxed.
I requested a specific RT to remove the ET tube and she made sure that happened. Tracy even reached out to the RT supervisor and made my request happen. Tracy was right there as her tube was pulled and gave us comfort, but also privacy. She stood right behind the curtain and was constantly monitoring her vital signs and respirations to ensure she was comfortable as she moved on. She let us stay with my Grammy as long as we needed and didn't rush us away.
She provided compassionate care the entire day. I will forever be grateful for her and the phenomenal care she provided to my Grammy and all the support she gave to us. She is an amazing nurse and you are all so lucky to have her. I want her to know she is in the right place. Nursing is truly her calling!
