Tracy's sincerity, kindness, warmth, of course, empathy, efficiency, sparkling sense of humor, willingness to share of herself and positive energy are remarkable.
Cancer patients come to know and trust the medical teams over the time they are together. Leaving a team behind after completing one's limited regimen or because of a geographic location change can be unsettling and traumatic. This is what my family and I did in November 2016 when we moved from Salem, Oregon to Boise, Idaho. Upon arrival at the St. Alphonsus Cancer Center, I met Tracy as my first infusion nurse. I was immediately met by Tracy's smiling face and vibrant spirit, most of all the enveloping warmth surrounding her. Tracy's presence was so sincere, so happy that I finally was able to relax from the apprehension associated with all the changes that were occurring in my life. Now, almost five years later, Tracy and I are still together. Tracy has a certain way about her and makes me feel like I am her only patient. I am not the only patient that Tracy treats this way. She extends herself like this to all those in her care. Her sincerity, kindness, warmth, of course, empathy, efficiency, sparkling sense of humor, willingness to share of herself and positive energy are remarkable. I've observed Tracy in the stressful environment she has chosen to work and that is why Tracy is truly a Shining Star extraordinaire. Tracy's awareness of what her patient needs and when they need it is uncanny. These few gestures and words make such a positive difference in a patient's acceptance of their chemotherapies both physically and emotionally. I think they make a positive difference in Tracy's journey as an oncology nurse, as well. There is more to say about Tracy Stack. So much more. Tracy really does feel like comfort food for the body, mind, and soul. An unusual gift to give and to receive in an unlikely place, an oncology infusion room.
