May 2026 Honoree
Trang Tran, RN
During my six-day hospitalization for Crohn’s disease, which after many assessments and medical exams resulted in 4 days NPO, I required TPN to rest my bowels in order to avoid risky surgery. After periods of sitting, I experienced significant physical discomfort and emotional fatigue. One moment that truly stands out reflects the kind of nurse Trang is. While conducting her routine rounds, Trang noticed that I was quietly struggling and trying to hold back tears after days of frustration, wanting to go home and feeling the weight of my new normal.
Even though I attempted to disguise how I was feeling, Trang saw me. She paused, came over, and took the time to comfort me with genuine kindness and compassion. Trang’s touch, presence, and willingness to pause in a busy shift made me feel cared for not just as a patient, but as a person. That moment meant more than I can fully express.
Throughout her shift caring for me, Trang was consistently professional, patient, and attentive. She took thoughtful steps to help manage my back pain (after doses of and struggles with pain meds; rash, nausea; I had not taken pain meds for two days and wanted to keep that way) and ensure I was as comfortable as possible.
Trang also kept me well-informed, explaining next steps in my care, including the transition to home healthcare, and updating me on what to expect throughout the day, such as when the doctor would arrive or what services would be coming into my room. Her ability to combine clinical skill with empathy, clear communication, and genuine human connection made a meaningful difference in my healing experience. I am deeply grateful for Trang’s care and believe she truly exemplifies the spirit of the DAISY Award.
