Travis Barbosa, RN, witnessed a horrific accident at an intersection in Wylie, Texas involving a car and a motorcycle. Travis immediately responded to the man he saw thrown from the motorcycle. The man had gurgling breath sounds and no pulse. Travis started CPR. He continued CPR until he was relieved by a Wylie police officer who responded to the scene. Travis remained at the scene until the patient regained a pulse and was taken to a local hospital.
This patient sustained crushed lungs, right leg fracture, broken ribs, bilateral orbital fractures, multiple facial fractures, a brain bleed, and brain swelling. He was touch and go in intensive care for several weeks and underwent multiple surgeries.
Because of Travis's quick response, this patient is alive today.
Three months later, the patient was transferred to a rehab to begin his long road to recovery thanks to Travis and this heroic act to save a life.
