One day, Travis spent all morning working with the providers caring for his patient to get him outside. Travis’ patient was admitted to Froedtert after spending a week in the hospital in Wausau with COVID-19. The patient was brought to Froedtert and placed on ECMO, and spent 66 days on ECMO. During his time on ECMO and being incredibly sick, the patient’s wife gave birth to his third child. After a very long battle, the patient improved and was able to come off ECMO. Travis cared for him many, many shifts while he was on ECMO and was assigned to him. The next day, Travis was told that the patient’s family was coming to see him, without any plans on how since visitors were still restricted. Travis spent all morning talking to numerous team members and providers whilst also having another patient, trying to arrange for his patient to go outside, see his family, and hold his newborn daughter for the first time. Throughout his time here in the CVICU, Travis has gone above and beyond while caring for all of his patients, especially our long-term patients. He has brought in Christmas decorations, Valentines, and other items to make his patients and families more comfortable. Travis is always putting his patient’s needs first and advocating for them. He is a phenomenal nurse, and every patient he cares for is lucky and blessed to have him as his or her nurse.
