As a woman, coming on her cycle is a dreadful thing. Especially as a sickle cell patient. Trevor and a co-worker came up with a handy invention called the “heating belt,” where they took heat packs and tied them on my stomach and back with an ace bandage. While in the process of doing so, Trevor answered black history trivia questions. Being on my cycle intensified my sickle cell crisis. I was having a really bad day, and Trevor made me smile and laugh with our banter. I playfully invited him to the cookout. The teamwork displayed left me feeling cared about and that I am significant, not just another number or person taking up space in a bed. There are great people on this floor. From the secretary to the tech, to the nurse. I’ve had very bad and traumatizing experiences in the past, but my encounter on this floor healed my soul.

Thank you, Trevor J, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
