I had an appointment for a breast biopsy and arrived a bundle of nerves since this test would confirm either a negative or positive cancer diagnosis. I was sitting in the patient waiting area wearing the hospital gown, feeling awkward and anxious, when Tricia first appeared. She sat down next to me, asked me how I was feeling, chatted with me in her soft and calming voice, then explained the procedure to me and asked if I would like to have her accompany me during the biopsy, to which of course I said yes! This instantly made me feel at ease. Although the place was buzzing with activity, she took the time to sit and talk with me.
Once I was in the procedure room with the doctor and the tech, who were both wonderful, Tricia came in and stayed by my side the entire time, asking me if I was warm enough, patting my leg to reassure me, asking me if I was in pain, and injecting a dose of humor whenever she could. This was all such a great comfort to me, and I am truly grateful for her kindness and caring that day.
I feel that Tricia went above and beyond that day and is very deserving of this award.
