Mom was admitted for a possible TIA. She had already been hospitalized for five days when it was determined she needed a stent in her left carotid artery.
After four attempts to place the stent, using the femoral artery approach, the surgeon aborted the procedure. When Mom returned to the room from post-op, she was in excruciating pain. She had developed a hematoma on the incision site. Trisha was assigned as Mom's post-op nurse. She had to apply direct pressure to the surgical site for 10 minutes. This was extremely painful for Mom. Throughout this whole process, Trisha provided comfort and encouragement to help her get through this ordeal.
Trisha has a special gift, which blends humor and cajoling. She is a "cheerleader" rooting her patients on to their best efforts toward recovery. When Mom got discouraged, Trisha would joke with her and get her to smile and try a little harder by saying, 'You are almost there, you're in the homestretch, last one, you are doing so great!'
Trisha discovered a critical medication did not transfer on EPIC from Mom's stay in the Tower. Mom began to experience total body tremors when she was ordered to remain flat and still. Trisha put in the order for the RLS meds, and then went directly to the pharmacy to speed up the process. She did not leave Mom's side until Mom had fallen asleep for the night.
When I speak of Trisha only superlatives come to mind; amazing, compassionate, gifted, dedicated, professional, humorous, loving and remarkable. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
