I am sure you are all aware of her many talents and her beautiful soul, but I wanted to let you know that patients see that in her and feel so lucky to have someone like her advocating for us.
I would like to recognize an outstanding person whom I was lucky to interact with at Medical City Mckinney. That person is Trista Smith. She is such a caring, compassionate person and a great example to all nurses.
Trista goes over and above for her patients, making us feel comfortable and at peace during difficult times.
My first interaction with Trista was this past May. The floor nurse went to Trista on my behalf as I was admitted with several health issues and was in a joint room with a patient who needed special care. Trista was so kind and caring and helped to have me moved to a private room where I was able to receive all the great care I needed. It was a scary time for me as there were many issues that were creating my illness. Thanks to Trista, I was relaxed and at peace during my stay due to her help and the coordination of doctors and nurses. When I was discharged, I recognized the individuals who helped me during that time: the doctors, nurses, techs, etc. Trista was so quick to be sure that their supervisors were notified and they were given recognition. I asked her at that time if I could contact her supervisor and let them know how much she did for me, and as humble as she is, she never gave me a name.
She did say that's my job, and I'm here for you. Anytime you need some help, feel free to contact me. Well, I was then admitted again in October, and I let Trista know that I was going to be admitted and asked her if there may be a room available on the third floor and if it would be possible for me to be assigned to one of those rooms as those nurses were so amazing. Again, Trista helped and, of course, did not want to be recognized. I have been to several hospitals, and Trista is the number one person I have ever interacted with during one of my stays. During my stay, I read one of the pamphlets about a DAISY Award. With that, I would like to nominate Trista for the DAISY Award since she represents everything that the award represents. She truly makes a difference and is appreciated more than you know.
