At one point, looking over at Tryniti, she has one hand holding the hand of the patient and the other wrapped around the patient's sobbing wife in a tight embrace.
Tryniti was there for a patient and his family during the last few hours of his life. The patient recently transferred into our ICU and continued to have increasing blood pressure support needs. The patient then soon took a turn for the worse and needed support from multiple nurses on our unit to support him until we could get Dialysis started.
Tryniti arrived on our unit while working in the Rapid Response role and, as always, offered her assistance. She spent the next two and a half hours holding the patient's hand. She continuously reassured the patient that we are here for him. She advocated to the doctor for medications to help calm the patient and keep him comfortable. As the patient received multiple doses of Epinephrine, he became more and more restless, trying to tear off his BiPAP and central lines. Despite this, she continued to hold his hand as the patient became more confused. Tryniti even unfortunately experienced several scratches from the patient becoming more and more restless and digging his nails into her hand. Despite this, she continued to hold her grip and assure him that we are here, and he is safe.
When the family was in the room, Tryniti was proactive in explaining to them everything that we were doing to try and save the patient's life, even as it seemed to be hopeless. At one point, looking over at Tryniti, she has one hand holding the hand of the patient and the other wrapped around the patient's sobbing wife in a tight embrace. She reassured the family that the patient was not in pain, that he could hear them, and encouraged the family to talk to him.
The Rapid Response role is very busy at our hospital, and Tryniti voluntarily took several hours out of her shift to be there for the family during the worst day of their life. This is what Tryniti does every day. She is a ray of sunshine that we rarely get to see in our ICU. She always approaches any situation with a smile on her face no matter how difficult it may be. Throughout my nursing career I have never met someone more deserving of this award and I know anyone who works at this hospital who has had the pleasure to meet Tryniti would agree with me. Thank you so much for considering her for this honorable award.
