Ms. Grant adheres to a high moral code of values and treats the veterans with the utmost dignity and respect.
Ms. Grant has been detailed to the COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic since Dec. 2020. She serves as the Charge Nurse and is the "subject matter expert" for the administration and documentation of the vaccines.
Ms. Grant exemplifies the "I CARE" values in her daily Nursing practice. She is committed to the success of fellow Nurses by providing the tools, education, and time needed by providing orientation to new staff members.
Ms. Grant adheres to a high moral code of values and treats the veterans with the utmost dignity and respect. She adheres to the standards as a professional Registered Nurse by leading by example to facilitate educating staff and veterans.
Ms. Grant advocates for the Veterans' well-being, going above and beyond when caring for her veterans, providing additional information when veterans voice concerns or uncertainty, confirming hospital appointments, and setting up future transportation. She can communicate at their level and provides a comfortable environment.
During a recent episode with a Veteran observed in a parking lot that was showing erratic behavior, Ms. Grant immediately went to assist. After the initial discussion, she discovered he was upset that he was not able to get his medications that day at the drive-thru, as the medications were scheduled for delivery. She stayed with him and his friend away from other veterans while other staff contacted the Pharmacy for assistance. During this time, she demonstrated her Nursing knowledge with compassion by utilizing refocusing techniques and deep breathing exercises to de-escalate the situation.
Another Veteran was observed experiencing unusual side effects after receiving his COVID-19 vaccine. Ms. Grant immediately went into action, providing the patient with the appropriate medications to help. After ensuring the patient was not under duress or suffering any medical emergency, she learned the patient had no one to take her home. Ms. Grant arranged transportation home and after the patient arrived home, she called her every hour for the remainder of her shift to make sure she was ok. She then called the Veteran the next day to make sure she knew where to follow up after her reaction. Ms. Grant demonstrated care that was above and beyond, always putting the Veteran first.
Ms. Grant treats the Veterans with dignity and respect as she serves as a preceptor to new Surg employees that are not familiar with the VA standards and regulations. While precepting Surg staff members, she created clinical reminder cheat sheets for new staff that was finding CPRS documentation difficult. She also took time to follow up with individuals until they felt comfortable in their new role at the HAMVA Medical Center.
